Beware of COVID-19 Scammers!

Home Beware of COVID-19 Scammers!

Despite the ongoing crisis, the scammers are still hard at work. States are reporting that unscrupulous individuals are sending text messages and emails along with creating websites and social media posts posing as government entities and organizations to obtain financial information from individuals and companies for personal gain.

Businesses that receive emails, text messages or social media postings that are attempting to gather information that appear to be from the Department of Revenue (DOR), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or an organization closely linked to either government agency, such as the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), should forward it to phishing@irs.gov.

Learn more about reporting suspected scams by going to the Report Phishing and Online Scams page on the IRS website.

Businesses can find official IRS information about the COVID-19 pandemic and economic impact payments on the IRS Coronavirus Tax Relief web page.
